Before Surgery Instructions

Please arrive at least one hour prior to your scheduled surgery time to Suite 401 at The Ridgely Oaks Professional Center located at 621 Ridgley Avenue in Annapolis, MD.

  • Bring with you a picture ID, insurance cards, co-payments, and deductibles if applicable 
  • Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing
  • Remove contact lenses or glasses and all piercings
  • Leave all jewelry and valuables, such as cell phones, money and watches at home


​Upon check in you will complete necessary paperwork and be seated in the waiting area. Our waiting area is equipped with WiFi to accommodate those needing internet access. Simply inform our front desk receptionist who will provide you with instructions and a security code. 


When the pre-op nurse is ready for you, you will be escorted downstairs. Your family member or caregiver may stay with you in the pre-op area if you wish until the time of your surgery. Your ride will receive instructions on where to wait.


It is your responsibility to understand your insurance and benefits and any copay/coinsurance/deductible that may be collected prior to your surgery. Please verify with your designated pharmacy if you have prescriptions to pick up one week before surgery.


If you are taking a GLP-1 agonist, such as Trulicity, Ozempic and Rybelsus, you need to be off that medication for at least 1 week before surgery.


After surgery is complete and you are awake, the nurse will bring your ride into the recovery room. Please limit this to one person and no children, as the nurse’s primary concern is you.

Before Procedure


  • What tests are required prior to my procedure?

    Any pre-operative tests will be determined by your physician or anesthesiologist and communicated to you prior to the date of your surgery

  • Will I be contacted prior to my procedure by the facility?

    Yes. The initial phone call will take place approximately two-three weeks prior to your procedure to review medical records and medications.


    You will also be contacted by someone in the billing office regarding your co-payment/deductible/co-insurance. 


    Finally, you will receive a phone call one day prior to your procedure for your check-in time.

  • What should I bring?

    Please bring a photo identification and your insurance card(s). Our staff will need to verify and make copies when you check-in on the day of your surgery. 


    Be sure to bring any medications that you may need during your stay at the facility (i.e. an inhaler or insulin) or instructed to bring.


    Please bring a list of all medications you are currently taking.

     

    Please bring payment of any patient responsibility. (e.g. co-payment/deductible/co-insurance)


    Please do not wear any jewerly including rings, watches or any piercings. Please don't bring any valuables.

  • Should I arrange a ride to the facility?

    If you are receiving general anesthesia, yes. You will not be allowed to drive after surgery. Please arrange for an adult to drive you home and for someone to be with you for 24 hours. 

     

    If you are having your procedure under a local anesthetic, then you can drive yourself home,unless told you need to have a driver.

  • What may I eat and drink before my procedure?

    If you are receiving general anesthesia you will not be able to eat or drink anything after midnight. You will receive instructions on taking your medications the morning of surgery.
